Stefan: Hello and welcome!
Susanne: Tell me, how are things going in your tent at Oktoberfest?
Stefan: Everything’s great. It’s now day eight of the world’s largest folk festival, the
Welcome to the
the second largest of its kind and probably the most international tent at
Stefan: Now we have the middle weekend, which the old-timers call
The Munich locals say that Oktoberfest only starts on Thursday, which was the day before yesterday.
Today is Saturday, the middle weekend.
You can already see when you look around outside that there’s a lot going on
and the tents are now closed due to overcrowding, everything is closed, you can’t get in anywhere
anymore.
Stefan: There are actually three special features about the tent behind me: you have twelve hundredweight of hops
decoration in the middle, the large angel Aloisius, and the Hofbräu festival tent
is the only festival tent at Oktoberfest with a standing area for 1,000 people.
Stefan: This is the party tent at the Wiesn. Every tent has a great atmosphere. Each tent has its own vibe.
Due to the international popularity of the Hofbräu München brand and the brewery, we have a lot of international
guests here from America, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, and above all Austria and Switzerland, of course,
and they’re celebrating here today.
Stefan: As far as beer is concerned, Oktoberfest beer is of course a very strong beer, it has six, 6.2-6.3% alcohol,
which not everyone can tolerate, so drink carefully and in moderation, and otherwise have fun here in the tent.
Susanne: Thank you. And tell me, how many people are you rocking the Wiesn with here during these 16 days?
Stefan: It depends on the day. Security varies depending on the day, but in total there are probably 400-450
people working here in the tent behind me. That’s around 100-130 security staff, around 250 waiters,
and then there are the office staff and the cleaning staff, so yes, around 450 people.
Susanne: Yes, that’s quite impressive, and the beer supply is secured?
Stefan: Exactly, so we have a total of 13 tanks installed here in the tent, each with a capacity of 50 or 70 hectoliters.
That means 5,000 or 7,000 liters of beer. They are filled at night by tanker trucks from the brewery, and
when we open here in the morning, we have 78,000 liters of beer ready to go. So we won’t run out of beer here.
Susanne: And what about the chicken and pork knuckles, is everything okay?
Stefan: Yes, of course it’s ready here, there are chicken grills everywhere in the tent. The Steinberg family are, so to speak,
the descendants of the Jahn family, the founders of Hühnerwald, so Hendel naturally has a very long
and special tradition here, and of course they are the best you can get here.
Susanne: Well, I saw earlier that the atmosphere here is fantastic. Everyone is having the time of their lives,
raising their glasses and having fun from all over the world. That’s how you want it to be, and it’s really nice here.
All countries, all nations, all classes, a lawyer and a construction worker, a lawyer and a gynecologist, everyone
celebrates at the same table. Of course, this also applies to female doctors, pharmacists, and construction workers.
This is where the world comes together, where beer mugs blur all differences and lead to togetherness,
to a convivial
Susanne: Stefan. Thank you very much.
Stefan: Yes, you’re welcome, and have fun in the tent.
Susanne: Yes, thank you, you too, and see you soon.
Stefan: Thank you.
