Nuremberg is truly the city of Christmas, bringing people together and filling hearts with warmth and romance.
The preparations for the Christmas Market 2024 were in full swing until the installation of the Christmas lights
in Nuremberg’s old town. Dr. Andrea Heilmaier, the Economic and Science Officer of the City of Nuremberg,
and Hans Schmidt, the 1st Chairman of Nürnberg leuchtet e.V., ceremoniously turned on the Nuremberg Christmas
lights 2024, causing the city to shine in a magical festive glow.
It was a beautiful moment filled with joy, romance, and a sense of celebration. Many people had gathered
to enjoy this special occasion, followed by some standing around with mulled wine and 3 im Weckla,
savoring the evening together.
The Nürnberger Kinderweihnacht has been extended, adding more magic for families until December 30.
Following a request from the city leadership, the beloved Christmas market at Hans-Sachs-Platz will once
again open its doors—from December 26 to December 30.
Families, visitors from near and far, now have the chance to experience the unique charm of the Children’s
Christmas Market during the holiday season and create unforgettable memories together.
Opening hours and offerings
From 10 AM to 9 PM daily, all shops, carousels, and interactive booths will be open, inviting everyone to fully
immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.
This extension aims to enliven the city center during the “between-the-years” period—a family-friendly
initiative that also benefits local retailers.
Thousands of people stand in front of the Frauenkirche and throughout the Christkindlesmarkt, their eyes
glowing with excitement. The entire market is illuminated solely by the charming stalls, creating an atmosphere
of great anticipation. Everyone gathers in a festive mood, eagerly waiting to hear the Christkind speak
and to experience the grand opening. Renowned worldwide, our Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt captivates visitors
with its stunning lights, which not only evoke a sense of celebration but also guide people directly to the heart
of the market.

Oberbürgermeister Marcus König begrüßt die Gäste
beim Empfang mit anschließendem Rundgang über den Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt.
They are handcrafted originals available from Susanne and Klaus Schrödel.
Klaus tells me, “When I met my Susanne, she wasn’t particularly keen on continuing the family business.”
However, since this family tradition has existed since 1900, and Klaus greatly enjoyed handcrafting the
Zwetschgenmännla, they decided to carry on. These beautiful and unique Zwetschgenmännla, each with
hand-painted faces and available in 130 different varieties—ranging from various professions, with
or without motorcycles, to custom creations—are true Nürnberg originals.
Paper perfection, crafted with artistic detail and love in a unique manufactory. Each star is a one-of-a-kind
creation. Folding, cutting, gluing, painting—every step is carefully done by hand, and each piece is meticulously
sewn. The lacquer adds extra strength to the star while giving it its shiny finish. Such a beautiful ornament
should not be missing from your Christmas decorations, and it makes for a truly elegant gift.
Nuremberg has a special charm, and the Christkindlesmarkt is world-famous. People come from all over the
globe to experience the magical pre-Christmas season here and be enchanted by the city’s many sights.
Gentlemen and ladies alike enjoyed the stroll and the anticipation of Christmas.
The Christkind has many responsibilities. It makes appearances at the market and the Kinderweihnacht,
holds storytelling sessions in the “Sternenhaus,” and has more than 150 additional engagements in charitable
institutions. These include visits to nursing homes, kindergartens, facilities for people with disabilities,
and hospitals.
Its radiant presence during a visit to the Children’s and Adolescent Psychiatry at Klinikum Süd in Nuremberg
brought joy to the children’s eyes, as it handed out Christmas gifts and read from its book to both children
and adults. Afterwards, the children’s
choir surprised everyone with beautiful Christmas songs.
Together with the Lord Mayor, many photos were taken, questions were answered, and cookies were enjoyed.
