The  “Summer Night Of Film Musik” 2024 Munich

The Headlines

Coming from the Munich Residence, where a thunderstorm has brewed over the venue. Lightning, thunder,
and rain intensify so quickly that the musicians can barely hear each other while playing.

The rain pounds loudly and heavily on the stage roof.

“JAWS”

In the night, silently swimming to the surface amid lightning and thunder, while you’re out at sea in your boat.
The rain crashes loudly on the deck, and its dorsal fin at the water’s surface is terrifying in the dark of the night.

This gave us all fascinating goosebump moments.

A concert of the highest caliber, with the pure force of nature. Within a short time, it started pouring rain, and the audience,
wrapped in rain ponchos, sat mesmerized, some almost motionless, in the courtyard of the Munich Residence’s
Fountain Courtyard.
Not only was the music familiar to all of us, but the weather also created a tension that made our blood run cold.

The Czech Symphony Orchestra

under the direction of

conductor Franz Bader

performed Jaws as lightning and thunder
raged over the Fountain Courtyard. At the end of the piece, lightning flashed behind the stage in perfect sync with the music—
it couldn’t have been more perfect. And now, see for yourself…

Thunder rolled over the courtyard, rain poured down, and all the spectators were soaked—but everyone wanted it.
Everyone wanted to experience this captivating evening, and so did the Czech Symphony Orchestra, playing with the utmost
dedication and passion.

Franz Bader shared fascinating insights between the pieces with evident joy and a charming style.

The Czech Symphony Orchestra played magnificently, treating the audience to a masterclass in performance.
Despite the challenging weather, they had a lot of fun and played with great passion. The audience was thrilled,
and everyone left visibly happy.

Composers John Williams and Hans Zimmer made headlines with their famous works like Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman,
Star Wars, Schindler’s List, E.T., Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-winning score for Dune,
awarded for Best Original Score.

Hans Zimmer

The integration of electronic music sounds is a hallmark of traditional orchestral arrangements.
Hans Zimmer has composed music for over 150 films, including The Lion King, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, the Pirates
of the Caribbean
series, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Dune.
In 1995, he won the Oscar for Best Original Score for The Lion King and again in 2022 for Dune. Zimmer has been nominated
twelve times for an Oscar, fifteen times for the Golden Globe Award, and twenty-two times for the Grammy Award.
His first Oscar nomination came in 1989 for Rain Man, marking his breakthrough in Hollywood. In 2010, he received a star
on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, followed by another in 2011 on the Boulevard der Stars in Berlin.
Zimmer has also earned four Grammys and two Emmy Awards.
He spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States, where he began working
in Hollywood. Hans Zimmer currently heads the film music department at DreamWorks SKG and collaborates with other
composers through his company, Remote Control Productions.

John Williams

Shows versatility: In 2005, John Williams composed music for four films: Star Wars: Episode III, War of the Worlds,
Memoirs of a Geisha, and Munich.
In addition to his film scores, Williams has composed two symphonies, several solo concertos, and various pieces for
orchestras and ensembles. He also wrote the musical Thomas and the King (1975) about Thomas Becket and King Henry II
of England.

For the inauguration ceremony of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009,
Williams composed the quartet Air and Simple Gifts, which was performed by Itzhak Perlman (violin), Yo-Yo Ma (cello),
Gabriela Montero (piano), and Anthony McGill (clarinet). The piece is inspired by the Shaker hymn by Joseph Brackett.

John Williams wrote four fanfares: Los Angeles Olympic Theme for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles
(later known as Olympic Fanfare and Theme), Olympic Spirit for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul,
Summon the Heroes for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and Call of the Champions for the 2002 Winter Olympics
in Salt Lake City. In 2003, he was honored with the Olympic Order for his contributions.

Williams also composed the music for NBC News’ The Mission and the DreamWorks SKG logo.
From 1980 to 1993, he served as the conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra and is now their honorary conductor.
He frequently performs as a guest conductor with American orchestras.
After expressing his desire in an interview to perform with the Vienna Philharmonic, he was invited by the orchestra
to conduct a performance of his compositions in Vienna.

Although he had to cancel due to health reasons, the concert took place on January 18 and 19, 2020, at the Golden Hall
of the Musikverein in Vienna, featuring Anne-Sophie Mutter as the soloist.
From October 14 to 16, 2021, John Williams made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in the Grand Hall of the
Berliner Philharmonie, becoming the oldest debut conductor at 89. It was also his first-ever visit to Berlin. In February 2022,
the recording of this concert reached number one on the German album charts for the first time in his career.

With just the first notes, audiences can instantly recognize which piece or film the music belongs to.
These melodies stay with us and make the films so special. The music elevates emotions, builds suspense to incredible heights,
and carries us to the highest dimensions and galaxies.

Music is one of the most wonderful things for the heart and soul. It speaks a language that touches us deeply,
expressing everything we feel inside.

This “Summer Night of Film Music” took us all on a magical journey, and with the support of the weather
created so many goosebumps and moments of tension that it’s almost indescribable.

Watch the recordings and enjoy these beautiful moments and the film music that means so much to the world.

Sincerely,
Susanne Panhans
