The top 25 marksmen and markswomen from all over Germany have qualified for the European Championship in France. Ready to depart with them are Team Manager Thomas Klaner, Trainer Thomas Baumhakl, and Brigitte Fritsch.
Has a centuries-old tradition. The weapons used are partly original firearms, while others are faithful replicas.
These firearms not only differ in their various ignition systems but also in the type of projectile they shoot, whether it’s a round ball or a conical bullet. The projectiles and bullets are made of soft lead and are usually cast by the shooters themselves, at least those who possess a specially designed bullet mold for their rifles. Of course, there are various projectiles available for purchase, such as round balls, which are also used in pistols. The ignition methods include flintlock, percussion cap, and matchlock.
What they all have in common is the use of black powder, which is loaded as propellant into the barrel. A lead ball is then placed on top of the charge and firmly seated using the ramrod. If the shooter has a flintlock ignition, they also need a bit of priming powder on the pan. In the case of a percussion cap ignition, percussion caps are used. And, of course, there are shotgun shooters who use the appropriate cartridges for their shotguns.
