Bavaria shows compassion: 13.24 million euros for children in need
Bayerischer Rundfunk’s Sternstunden Day achieved an outstanding
fundraising total of 13.24 million euros.
Throughout the day, Bavarian Broadcasting’s programs reported on Sternstunden’s aid projects
for children in need and the people behind them.
BR employees and presenters, as well as many celebrities, began taking donations by phone as early as 6:00 a.m.
at the donation centers in Munich and Nuremberg.

has performed heart surgery on 920 children with congenital heart defects at Manipal Hospitals in Bangalore,
India, over the past 15 years.
Thanks to Sternstunden, another 80 children will be able to receive heart surgery, hospital care, and follow-up treatment.
Association for the Support of Burn Injury Treatment
This organization cares for children with severe burn injuries.
Veronica, 7 years old, is from Rwanda and has been living at the Friedensdorf in Oberhausen for several months.
She is now at the Munich Schwabing Hospital for the second time.
The pediatric surgeon saw pictures of Veronica’s injury and knew immediately that this child needed help.
It happened due to an accident at home. Her right arm had fused to her body and was pulling her upper body
downward; without surgery and treatment, Veronica would suffer a painful curvature of the
spine.
For nearly 40 years, the VFBB association has been funding surgeries for children with severe burn injuries from
all over the world, thereby preventing permanent disabilities.
is a senior attending physician at the Munich Schwabing Clinic and a guest on the program, where he talks about his
work and that of his colleagues. These surgeries are funded by donations, and the impact
made by this small association, the VFBB, is truly significant.
A child-friendly, multidisciplinary outpatient center is being established in Würzburg for children and adolescents
who have been victims or witnesses of sexual and physical violence.
This is another project supported by Sternstunden. The film was shot at the existing Childhood Haus in Munich,
which is also funded by Sternstunden.
